About
fot. Julia Markiewicz
My name is Agata Borowska, and I am a visual artist working primarily in the medium of analog collage. In my practice, I create compositions with a clear, central structure. These often take the form of abstract shapes that seem to float in space or drift on water, suspended between reality and imagination. I am drawn to ambiguity in art.
I approach collage as a form of visual archaeology—a way of uncovering new meanings from existing images. I work with a wide range of paper materials, from contemporary and archival magazines, photographs, and postcards, to albums and books.
The visual language I have developed through collage serves as a starting point for my paintings, where the compositional tension, layered textures, and intuitive gestures of collage are translated into a more fluid and expansive medium, deepening my exploration of abstraction and form.
I am also interested in portraiture. In drawing, I usually produce quick sketches, while in painting I often create abstracted representations based on gesture, intuition, and an unconventional color palette.
I hold postgraduate studies from the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź (Painting and Drawing) and from the Institute of Art, Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw (Modern Art History).
I live and work in Warsaw.
